The XP Farming Strategy That Leveled Me Up 3x Faster Than Normal Play

I was stuck at 800 stars for three weeks. Three weeks of grinding the same difficulty levels, making zero progress on unlocks, watching my friends pull ahead. Then I changed my farming strategy and tripled my XP rate overnight.

XP farming in Geometry Dash has gotten complicated with all the map packs, gauntlets, and daily rewards flying around. As someone who went from casual player to 15,000+ stars, I learned everything there is to know about efficient leveling. Today, I will share it all with you.

How XP Actually Works

Several factors determine your XP gain: level difficulty, length, completion percentage, and star rating. The trick most people miss is that the best XP-per-minute comes from shorter levels with higher star ratings. Not longer ones. Not harder ones you can barely finish. Short and rated. That’s the formula.

The Levels I Farm (And Why)

If You’re Still Learning

Stereo Madness and its remakes work fine for pure beginners. One-star levels, under two minutes each, consistent XP. Nothing exciting, but they get the job done while you build fundamentals.

The Real XP Sweet Spot: Easy Demons

Once you can reliably clear easy demons, everything changes. These became my primary farming targets and the difference was massive:

  • The Nightmare — Completable in under a minute. I’ve beaten this level so many times the muscle memory is permanent
  • The Lightning Road — Simple gameplay, fast completion. Perfect for speed-running XP
  • Demon Mixed — Straightforward with a solid XP payout
  • Platinum Adventure — No cheap difficulty spikes, just clean demon XP

I ran The Nightmare probably 50 times in one sitting once. Not proud of it. But my star count jumped noticeably.

Map Packs

Here’s what most people skip: map packs give bonus XP on top of individual level rewards. The cumulative bonus stacks up fast. I worked through every easy pack first, then medium, then hard. Systematic. Boring. Effective.

The Strategy That Tripled My Progress

Daily Chests First

Log in every single day. Grab the daily and weekly chests. Diamonds, orbs, occasional XP bonuses. Even if you only play for two minutes, collect those chests. I set a phone alarm for this. Ridiculous? Maybe. But free rewards are free rewards.

The Star Grinding Method

This is what actually changed everything for me:

  1. Sort levels by star rating, start with 1-3 stars
  2. Filter for shortest length
  3. Blast through them in rapid sequence — don’t overthink, just complete and move on
  4. Move up to the next difficulty tier once the current levels feel effortless

That’s what makes XP farming endearing to us grinders — it’s not about skill, it’s about efficiency. Play smart, not hard.

Featured Level Rotation

Featured levels sometimes carry bonus XP during their rotation. Check the featured tab regularly and clear new ones as they show up. I make this part of my daily routine right after grabbing chests.

Advanced Optimization

Secret Coins

Coins give extra XP and unlock bonus content. Prioritize levels where the coins are easy to grab without adding significant completion time. Skipping a coin that requires a risky detour isn’t worth restarting the whole level.

User Coin Hunting

Verified user coins in online levels feed a separate counter. Search for levels designed specifically with easy-to-reach coins. Some creators literally make “coin farm” levels. Use them.

Weekly Demon

Big XP payoff. Even if you can’t finish it right now, practicing it builds the skills you’ll need for medium demon farming later. Worth attempting every week.

What to Farm Based on Where You Are

Beginner (0-100 stars)

  • Finish all main levels on normal mode first
  • Work through 1-2 star rated online levels
  • Focus on consistency over speed

Intermediate (100-500 stars)

  • Target 3-5 star levels for the best XP ratio at this stage
  • Start attempting easy demons as soon as you can
  • Clear available map packs

Advanced (500+ stars)

  • Medium demons become your best XP source
  • Harder map packs open up
  • Gauntlet levels for those bonus rewards

Time-Saving Habits

  • Practice mode first — learn the route before burning attempts
  • If a level kills you more than ten times, move on. Come back tomorrow with fresh eyes
  • Focused 30-minute sessions beat distracted two-hour grinds every time
  • Track your star gains per session so you know which levels give the best return

Farming shouldn’t replace actually enjoying the game. The best progression happens when you mix efficient grinding with levels you genuinely want to play. But when you need to push through a plateau, this strategy works. Took me from stuck at 800 to breaking 5,000 in about six weeks.
